Academy Manager, Wayne Mundon, has committed to walk, run and cycle 2021 Miles in 2021 for charity, with the fundraising target of £5000 in sight. Wayne hopes to donate at least £2500 to both Young Minds, and Mary Stevens Hospice, charities dealing with Mental Health and End of Life Care respectively, with both charities being close to Wayne's heart.
Wayne said: "Growing up I battled with bouts of anxiety and depression myself, and charities like Young Minds were not around. Since taking up my role at Redditch United, for almost a year now I have witnessed the decline of mental well-being in our junior players. Various lockdowns have placed a tremendous strain on them, with no football for large parts, which means most do not have the physical escape they once had. Added to that, constant re-jiggling of school and homeschooling, restrictions and not being able to socialise with their friends, has really made this year a tough one for younger people.
"(Additionally) I have a huge amount of respect and gratitude for the care that is provided at Mary Stevens Hospice. Over the years I have had many friends and family move into the hospice for end of life care, and the treatment provided has been outstanding. This, as well as Young Minds are very deserving charities for me to raise money for."
"Raising funds and awareness for these charities is really important to me, its driving me on and I really appreciate any support."
Wayne has currently completed 483.6miles as of 26th February, with 1537.4miles to go! You can follow his journey, as well provide donations and messages of support via his GoFundMe page, which is available by clicking HERE.
